Ingredients

  • - 4 ripe avocados, peeled, pitted, and diced
  • - 6 Roma tomatoes, cored and chopped
  • - 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
  • - 1 jalapeño, seeds removed and minced
  • - Juice of 2 limes
  • - 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • - 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • - 1 clove garlic, minced optional for extra flavor
  • - 1/2 teaspoon cumin for depth

Method

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
  1. Start by assembling all your ingredients. It’s always a good practice to have everything chopped and ready to go before mixing. This way, you can focus on creating the perfect blend of flavors.
Step 2: Prepare the Veggies
  1. In your mixing bowl, add the diced tomatoes and chopped red onion. These two ingredients give the dip a vibrant base and crunchy texture. Make sure to chop them into small pieces for a better distribution throughout the dip.
Step 3: Add Jalapeño for a Kick
  1. If you enjoy a bit of heat, add the minced jalapeño at this stage. Remember to taste as you go; spice levels can vary depending on your preference. If you're cooking for kids, you might want to cut back or omit this step altogether.
Step 4: Mash the Avocado
  1. In a separate bowl, take your ripe avocados and mash them with a fork. You want them creamy but not completely pureed. A few small chunks add a nice texture to the dip.
Step 5: Combine Everything
  1. Fold the mashed avocado into the bowl with the tomato and onion mixture. Gently mix until everything is well incorporated. You want every scoop of dip to have a bit of everything.
Step 6: Season and Garnish
  1. Now, it’s time to brighten up this dip with lime juice, salt, garlic, and cumin. These components pull the whole dish together. Taste your creation and adjust salt or lime juice if needed.
Step 7: Add Cilantro
  1. Finally, fold in the freshly chopped cilantro. This herb adds freshness and flavor; it’s the cherry on top, so don’t skip it!
Step 8: Serve Immediately or Chill
  1. You can serve this dip right away with your favorite tortilla chips, or let it chill in the fridge for about half an hour to meld the flavors together. Either way, you’re in for a treat!

Notes

- Select Ripe Avocados: Look for avocados that yield slightly to pressure but aren’t overly soft.
- Adjust the Heat: If you want a milder dip, leave out the jalapeño altogether.
- Fresh is Best: Use fresh ingredients for the best taste; stale or overly ripe vegetables won't do you justice.
- Serve Cold: Chilling the dip allows flavors to develop and makes for a refreshing snack.
- Add Flavors: Consider additional spices like paprika or a dash of chili powder for extra flavor.
