Method
Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients
- Start by preparing all ingredients. Slice the chicken, mozzarella, and tomatoes. Take a moment to wash and pat-dry the basil leaves. Having everything ready makes the process smooth.
Step 2: Butter the Bread
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of brioche bread. This may seem simple, but that buttery goodness is what makes your panini golden and crispy.
Step 3: Assemble the Panini
- Start with a slice of bread, butter-side down. Layer it with sliced chicken followed by mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil. Sprinkle a touch of salt over the tomatoes. Drizzle balsamic reduction for that punch of flavor. Finish with another slice of bread butter-side up.
Step 4: Heat the Panini Press
- Preheat your panini press or a stovetop skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, you will need something heavy to press down on the sandwich.
Step 5: Grill Until Golden
- Place the assembled panini onto the press or skillet. Grill for about 3-5 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melty. If using a skillet, check after a few minutes, pressing down with a heavy skillet to help with the melting.
Step 6: Slice and Serve
- Once it’s golden and gooey, remove the panini and let it rest for a minute. This helps the cheese firm up slightly, so it doesn't ooze out when you cut it. Slice diagonally and serve with a side salad or your favorite chips.
Notes
- Use High-Quality Ingredients: The fresh mozzarella and ripe tomatoes make all the difference. Quality matters!
- Let Ingredients Come to Room Temperature: This ensures even heating and better flavor melding.
- Experiment with Bread Types: While brioche is sweet, ciabatta or sourdough works wonderfully too. Don’t shy away from experimenting.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Panini: This can lead to sad, soggy bread. A little space allows for even grilling.
- Play with Add-Ins: Feel free to throw in avocado, pesto, or even a dash of red pepper flakes if you're looking for extra flavor.
