Pizza Logs Recipe - Comfort Food Meals

A crispy surface that yields to warm, melty cheese and savory meat, all wrapped in a golden embrace. That's the magic of pizza logs.
They’re not just a snack; they bring a little piece of Italy to your plate. Ever since I tasted my first pizza log at a local fair, I’ve been enamored. These delightful bites are part comfort food, part party pleaser.

Ingredients

  • 24 slices of turkey pepperoni
  • 8 large egg roll skins larger than standard wonton wrappers
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 low-fat Mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 8 teaspoons pre-made pizza sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Method

  1. Creating pizza logs is easier than you might think. Follow these straightforward steps:
Step 1: Prepare Ingredients
  1. First, gather all your ingredients. Lay the egg roll skins flat on a clean surface. This is where the magic will happen!
Step 2: Fill the Skins
  1. Take a string cheese stick and place it in the center of an egg roll skin. Be generous with the turkey pepperoni by layering a few slices. Don't forget a small amount of pizza sauce on top of the cheese. Then, sprinkle a dash of garlic powder and oregano for flavor.
Step 3: Roll Them Up
  1. Now it’s time to fold. Start by folding one side over the filling, tucking it snugly around the cheese and pepperoni.
  2. Next, fold in the sides, and continue rolling from the bottom to the top. Seal the edge with a little water to hold everything together.
Step 4: Heat the Oil
  1. If you're frying, heat a pot of oil over medium heat. You can also opt to bake them. If you choose the oven, preheat it to 400°F (200°C).
Step 5: Cook the Pizza Logs
  1. If frying, carefully drop the logs into the hot oil. Deep fry them for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. If baking, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and lightly spray them with cooking oil. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through until they're golden and crispy.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy!
  1. Once cooked, allow them to cool slightly. Serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping. Enjoy the crunchy, cheesy delight!

Notes

Here are some helpful tips to make your pizza logs even better:
  • Shred Your Own Cheese: Pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that can affect meltiness. Buy a block and shred it yourself for optimum gooeyness.
  • Don’t Overfill: It’s tempting to stuff every ingredient under the sun in there, but overfilling can lead to a mess. Stick to a handful of each element.
  • Experiment with Dough: If you can't find egg roll wrappers, try using phyllo dough or even crescent roll dough as a fun alternative.
  • Consider Dipping Sauces: Offer a variety of dips, like marinara, ranch, or even buffalo sauce, to elevate the experience.
Play with Toppings: Customize your logs by adding veggies like bell peppers, onions, or olives.
